Don’t you just love Christmastime? Houses dress up with twinkling lights. Happy music plays on the radio, and yummy cookies bake in the oven. And best of all, Christmas trees glitter with tinsel and lights, with a pile of presents underneath.

But do you know why we celebrate Christmas? A long time ago, God sent His Son, Jesus, to be born as a tiny baby. The night He was born, an angel appeared to shepherds saying, “For unto you is born this day . . . a Savior, who is Christ the Lord” (Luke 2:11). The shepherds knew that this baby was very important, so they looked for Him and found Him in a stable, just as the angel had said.

God gave us His Son to show us how much He loves us. The Bible says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16). Jesus wants us to believe in Him and love Him with all our hearts so that we can spend forever with God in heaven. Isn’t that a wonderful gift?
